From Handmade to CAD: How We Design Flawless Jewellery Today

For most of our twenty years in Pune, every piece we made began the same way: a sketch on paper, a wax model carved by hand, and weeks of patient work in 18-karat gold. Handmade jewellery has a soul — but it also has limits. Hand-carved prongs are never perfectly identical. A pavé line laid by eye can drift half a millimetre. For most of jewellery history, those tiny imperfections were simply the price of a handcrafted piece.

Today, we design with CAD — computer-aided design — and manufacture with CAM, computer-aided manufacturing. It has changed what we can promise our clients, and we want to explain exactly how.

What CAD actually means for your jewellery

CAD lets us build your piece as a precise 3D model before a single gram of gold is touched. Every curve, every prong, every stone seat is drawn to a fraction of a millimetre. You see the design from every angle — top, side, inside the band — and we refine it together on screen. Want the centre stone a touch higher? The band a shade slimmer? It's a five-minute change, not a week of re-carving.

And what CAM adds

Once you approve the model, CAM takes over: the design is grown as a high-resolution wax or resin model by machine, accurate to the digital file, and then cast in your chosen metal. The result is a casting with perfect symmetry — prongs that match exactly, pavé lines that run true, and settings that grip every stone with the same secure geometry.

What hasn't changed

The machines do not finish your jewellery — our hands still do. Every CAD-designed piece is still set, polished, and finished by the same craftsmen at our bench in Camp, Pune. Stones are seated by hand, one by one. The final polish, the part you feel when you run a thumb over the piece, is human. Think of CAD as a perfect skeleton; the life is still added by hand.
