Diamond Ring Price in India by Carat: A 2026 Buyer's Guide
"How much does a diamond ring cost?" doesn't have a single answer — a 1-carat diamond ring can honestly cost anywhere from ₹30,000 to ₹3,00,000 depending on choices that aren't visible at a glance. Rather than quote you one number, here's what actually moves the price, and rough ranges so you can budget sensibly before you walk in.
The single biggest factor: natural vs lab-grown
A lab-grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically identical to a natural one — the only difference is where it was formed. Lab-grown diamonds typically cost a fraction of the natural price for the same carat, cut and clarity, which is why they've become the practical choice for buyers who want size and quality without the natural-diamond premium. Neither is 'better' — it's a genuine trade-off between origin and budget.
The 4Cs, briefly — and which one to prioritise
Carat is weight, not size or quality — two 1-carat diamonds can look very different. Cut affects sparkle more than any other factor and is the one C we'd tell you never to compromise on, since a poor cut makes even a flawless stone look dull. Colour and clarity matter, but small differences here are often invisible to the naked eye, especially once a diamond is set — which is why a well-cut diamond with a slightly lower colour or clarity grade often looks better, and costs less, than a poorly cut 'perfect' one.
Rough price ranges by carat (India, indicative)
These are broad, indicative ranges for a well-cut, eye-clean diamond — actual prices move with the market and the exact 4Cs, so treat this as a starting budget, not a quote:
- 0.30 carat — lab-grown roughly ₹8,000–₹18,000 · natural roughly ₹25,000–₹50,000
- 0.50 carat — lab-grown roughly ₹15,000–₹30,000 · natural roughly ₹45,000–₹90,000
- 1.00 carat — lab-grown roughly ₹30,000–₹55,000 · natural roughly ₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000
- 1.50 carat — lab-grown roughly ₹55,000–₹95,000 · natural roughly ₹2,50,000–₹5,00,000
- 2.00 carat — lab-grown roughly ₹90,000–₹1,50,000 · natural roughly ₹4,00,000–₹8,00,000+
These figures are for the stone and a standard setting; an elaborate design, coloured gemstone accents or platinum in place of gold will shift the total.
What about a diamond ring under ₹10,000?
We'd rather tell you plainly than let you find out at the counter: a genuine, certified diamond of any meaningful size doesn't fit that budget — the stone alone starts well above it. What ₹10,000 typically buys is either a very small accent diamond (a few points, not a full carat) in a simple gold band, or a ring set with a diamond simulant like cubic zirconia (see our comparison of moissanite and CZ vs diamond). Neither is wrong to choose — just know which one you're getting, and ask for it in writing.
Making charges and GST
Two costs beyond the stone and metal apply to nearly every piece: making charges (the jeweller's labour, typically a percentage of the gold value or a flat rate for setting the stone) and GST at 3% on the total value of gold and diamond jewellery in India. Ask for both to be itemised on your bill — a transparent jeweller will show you the stone cost, metal cost, making charges and GST as separate lines, not one bundled number.
Getting an exact price
Because so much rides on the exact stone and design, we don't publish fixed prices online — the honest number depends on the diamond in front of you, not a catalogue figure. Bring your budget and we'll show you what it actually buys at each carat and quality level, natural and lab-grown side by side, with no obligation.

How much does a 1-carat diamond ring cost in India?
Roughly ₹30,000–₹55,000 for a well-cut lab-grown diamond, and roughly ₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000 for a comparable natural diamond, plus making charges and 3% GST. The exact figure depends on cut, colour and clarity — carat alone doesn't determine price.
Why is there such a big price gap between lab-grown and natural diamonds?
Natural diamonds take a supply chain of mining, sorting and grading built over more than a century, and their supply is fixed by geology. Lab-grown diamonds are produced on demand in weeks, which keeps their cost far lower — even though the finished stone is chemically and optically identical to a mined one.
Can I get a genuine diamond ring under ₹10,000?
Not a meaningful-sized certified diamond — the stone cost alone exceeds that for anything beyond a few points. That budget typically buys either a very small accent diamond in a simple band, or a ring set with a simulant like cubic zirconia. Both are legitimate choices as long as you know which you're buying.
Does carat weight alone determine a diamond's price?
No — cut, colour and clarity all move the price at a given carat weight, sometimes more than the weight itself. Two 1-carat diamonds can differ in price by a factor of two or three depending on their cut quality and grading, which is why we'd always recommend prioritising cut over chasing a round carat number.
