Wedding Season Jewellery Shopping in Pune: A Timeline Guide

Pune's wedding season runs November through February, and every year we see the same pattern: families who start their jewellery shopping in August and September get exactly what they pictured. Families who start in October are choosing from what's in stock. If a wedding is anywhere on your horizon this season, here's how to time it.

Why lead time matters more than people expect

Ready pieces can be fitted and finished in days. Anything custom — a bridal set built around a specific outfit, a redesigned heirloom, a made-to-order mangalsutra — realistically needs four to eight weeks from confirmed design to delivery, longer for elaborate polki or kundan work. Push that against a wedding date in December and an October start is already tight. Starting in August or September gives you room to actually enjoy the design process instead of rushing it.

What to buy for each function

• Engagement — a solitaire or diamond ring is usually the first piece finalised, often 3–6 months out. This is also the easiest to make custom, since it's just one piece.
• Sangeet & mehendi — lighter, photogenic pieces: statement earrings, layered necklaces, hand harnesses. Gold or silver with colour (polki, kundan, enamel) tends to suit the mood better than an all-diamond set.
• Wedding day — the bridal set itself: necklace, earrings, maang tikka, bangles, usually the most elaborate and the one worth starting earliest.
• Reception — a second, often more contemporary set — diamond-forward, sleeker — since the bride typically changes look.
• Mangalsutra — traditionally finalised close to the wedding, but the design and bead pattern are worth deciding on early since ours are made to order.

Gold, diamond, or kundan/polki — deciding by function

There's no single right answer, but a pattern that works well: gold and kundan/polki carry the ceremonial functions (mehendi, the wedding day itself, temple-style photographs), while diamond pieces suit the reception and the going-forward wardrobe — the set you'll actually keep wearing for anniversaries and other weddings after this one. Many brides split the budget this way rather than choosing one metal for everything.

Custom vs. ready — and why not choose both

You don't have to pick one. A common approach: the bridal-day set is custom (it's worn once, photographed forever, and worth getting exactly right), while sangeet and mehendi pieces come from ready collections you can see, try on, and take home the same visit. That balances design control on the piece that matters most against the shorter timeline for everything else.
